My Morning Wooten

Have you heard the news? Everybody's out to get poor Sarah Palin.
While the Left is watching Sarah waiting for something they can put on YouTube, the Right will be watching Gwen Ifill, the moderator. She’s writing a book, “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama” scheduled for publication on the day he is inaugurated as President of the United States. When chosen to moderate tonight’s panel, she neglected to mention her certainty that this is the “Age of Obama” and that her publisher’s preparing to release it on Jan. 20, 2009.
BUZZZZZZZZZ. Wrong again, Jim. Would you like to go for double jeopardy where the scores can really change?

FACT: The debate commission knew about Ifill's book when they asked her to moderate the Vice Presidential debates. Does this mean they are also part of the lefty hit squad?

FACT: Although it's unclear if the McCain camp knew about the book, they have since stated it's "no big deal".

FACT: The Washington Post's Howard Kurtz wrote about Ifill's book a month ago.

Time to play the Occam's Razor game, gentle readers. Which explanation makes sense - all these conservative political experts just discovered Ifill's book or they've known about it all along and only ginned up a story the day before the debate because it puts the debate commission in a no win situation (They can't replace Ifill and any question perceived as hard can be spun as biased).

Of course, you can hear the righteous indignation of the shocked, I say shocked, experts in such high places as the Sean Hannity Show and the Hugh Hewitt Show. I suppose you can also satisfy for your craving for fairy tales on the pages of the AJC.

Another example of the McCain campaign not doing their vetting.

Hmmm... expectations are low for the Republican VP's performance tonight. Therefore, convienently release a "news" story two days prior to the debate through the wing nut bloggers about bias on the part of the moderator.

So then when your candidate underperforms it's an easy spin to say it was a biased debate, she never had a fair shot, everyone is picking on me, nobody picked me for dodgeball, the bully stole my lunch money....

It's clearly bullshit that they are claiming they just learned of this a few days ago. But that's also how politics goes. Why make a stink about something a month or two in advance if it's to greater political advantage to do it a few days before?

If the commission knew about it, it's not because Ifill disclosed it to them. From an AP article in the AJC:

The host of PBS' "Washington Week" and senior correspondent on "The NewsHour" said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book. The commission had no immediate comment when contacted by The Associated Press.

I despise the Right Wing Noise Machine as much as the next gal, but I think Ifill left a door open for them here with that lack of disclosure.

And I think leaving her on as moderator is a losing proposition because it gives the noise machine a crutch to lean on if Palin sounds as moronic as she did in the Katie Couric interview (which I don't think she will, but that's another topic).

Considering that Obama is leading in Virginia, Ohio and Florida, and has North Carolina at a tie, they're freaking the hell out and trying to rally everyone they can through massive whining and screeching.

For a bunch of folks accusing the Dems and people on the left being whiny little you-know-whats, they sure are incredibly whiny themselves (including that whole "waaaaaaa Nancy Pelosi hurt our feewings" bit during the House bailout bill vote).

"Would you like to go for double jeopardy where the scores can really change?" - John McLane (Bruce Willis), Die Hard

I'd vote for McLane over McCain any day. No way he'd fall for the Ifill bias bullshit.
