The Block

Here's the deal.

I'm blocked.

And I have been for a while. I've spit out a few pieces over the past months but nothing to cause pride.

A good friend, a writer, once told me that writer's get blocked because they are fighting something and the block will continue until the struggle ceases.

I think I've figured out what I'm ramming my head against. Maybe tomorrow the struggle within will cease. But not today.

Of all days, not today.

Confusionus say: Be wary of any advice coming from the mind of writer living in greater NYC metropolitan area. Then again, he might have just said "be mindful of any advice coming from any writer as they're typically the most clueless of 'em all."

Was that writer a really good dancer with bad knees?

Have you considered getting a $4,300 hooker to help you?

I used to write songs. I also, for years, was madly in love with a beautiful woman. Then I finally got up the nerve to tell her that I love her. She rejected me...

Well, you know, I finally settled down with the butcher's daughter, spawned a few offspring, and now I make a living hauling live chickens into the city.

Haven't picked up that Martin in over 11 years. Maybe if I tried out a new instrument... an accordian, perhaps... or a melodica...

The secret to beating writers block is simple.

Lower your expectations.

I didn't write that, but it's true.

Grift, all you need to beat writer's block is a deadline.
