First, Gen. Anthony Zini spoke out. Then, Lt. General Gregory Newbold spoke out. Now, Gen. George Joulwan speaks out.
The consistent message in all is that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld micromanages his department, ignores decades of military advice and removes any dissent. The frustration of the general officers is palpable.
Agree or disagree with the war, but the political reality is that George Bush must sacrifice someone to at least give the appearance of reforming the war leadership. Is there any doubt that sacrifice must be Rumsfeld?

Unfortunately, Rummy isn't going to leave as long as Dick Cheney is VP. He and Biggus Dickus go back to the Nixon administration, and I've come to the conclusion that they've been part of our government (off and on) for so many years, that they think it belongs to them. The rest of us are merely pests who get in their way. That's why, in his press conferences and appearances before House and Senate committees, Rummy exhibits nothing but contempt for reporters and our elected representatives. He's never wrong, and any criticism he receives is dismissed as nothing more than the bleating of the ignorant. Ironically, any employee of his who demonstrated the kind of incompetence he has, would have been fired long ago.
