Breaking News: Study Group Recommends Withdrawal

Jim Baker's much touted Iraq Study Group is recommending a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.

The bipartisan group reached a consensus on Wednesday on a final report that will call for a gradual pullback of the 15 American combat brigades now in Iraq but stop short of setting a firm timetable for their withdrawal, according to people familiar with the panel’s deliberations.

The position is alledgedly supported unanimously by the bi-partisan panel. So what does this mean?

The only people left who oppose some form of redeployment inhabit the airwaves of AM radio, Wingnutdaily and oh yeah, the Oval Office.

Mr. President. You now have the needed political cover. Start the process of common sense strategic re-alignment. Now.

UPDATE: As Grayson pointed out in the comments, Andisheh Nouree, a beautiful woman possibly of middle Eastern descent, wrote on the subject last week. Ms. Nouree is as succint as she is lovely.

May I direct your attention to the always razor-sharp Mr. Nouraee from last week's CL:

"Any day now, the Iraq Study Group is expected to issue its report explaining how the Bush administration should proceed with the thus-far bungled U.S. war in Iraq. The ISG, led by Bush-family right-hand man James Baker, is expected to propose either a partial U.S. military pullout, or a redeployment of U.S. forces within Iraq. Also in the cards is a push for some sort of regional diplomacy effort involving Iran and Syria, the aim being to cut off foreign support for insurgent violence. Apparently, we don't negotiate with terrorists, except for when we do."
