The Fish Is Gone

The Fish is gone, but not forgotten.

For over three years, the Carp Circles psychobilly fish has been the mascot of Drifting Through The Grift, but it is time to put him out to pasture. And milk that sucker for everything he's worth!

A new banner is in town and the fish has moved over to the right side and onto a t-shirt. I've opened a little Cafe Press shop in case anyone wants a personal copy of the fish. We'll see how it goes and maybe add some more options in the future.

Now, how many people do you think will believe I'm that goofball sitting on the left hand side of the picture?

Housekeeping

I'm doing some housekeeping around the joint so don't get frightened if things get weird.

One item that I've needed to address for a while was the Georgia Voices feed over to your right. It's not only working again but it's updated to include some new joints you may have missed. Be sure to scan the latest headlines and show them some love.

As usual, if you've got a joint that I've missed and you think it should be listed, shoot me an email or leave a comment.

UPDATE: I know you're seeing some weird margin things. I've discovered a bug in AdSense and am having a helluva time sorting it out. I don't really care about AdSense but once I start gnawing a bone, I have a hard time letting go.

I do not like chest thumping. But I'm sick and tired of having to search my archives every time I get in another one of these insipid arguments.

The People Have Spoken

I enjoy being the man in black but I've always worried about readability. There have been complaints in the past.

Well, time to do something about it.

I got off my lazy butt, dug out my miniscule CSS mojo and tweaked the main section. Hopefully the color contrast is a bit easier on the eyes.

I'm going to keep tweaking but let me know what you think.

Oh. And I know I've also been less than prolific lately. That's going to change too.

A Pruning We Will Go

While some are sadly hanging it up, I've decided to give it one more whirl.

I think I've still got things to say and by god I'm going to say them.

To begin the renewal process, I'm pruning the Georgia blogroll and the Georgia Voices. If you haven't written anything since March 1st, I'm taking you off. If you fall into that category but plan to restart soon, drop me an email and I will keep you on.

A Little Shakeup

I'm working on moving the site to a new URL. Since this is a simple DNS redirect your bookmarks and feeds should still work. But I haven't exercised my DNS mojo in quite a while so things may get a bit wacky. I ask your patience, gentle readers.

The Gloves Are Off

I've consciously kept my blog PG for some while now. Probably from a ridiculous need to "fit in". Maybe it's late at night. Maybe I've had a few beers. Maybe I will delete this all in the morning. But for now, no more restrictions. The gloves are off. Feel free to hide the kids.

Attica! Attica!

I try to be a good blog citizen. I dole out links like the ice cream man on the 4th of July. But Libby and Newshog got me thinking. Even us good citizens get little respect from some of the big hoo hahs. No problem. Anyone that gets a bajillion readers a day doesn't really need another link from a small fry like me. The sad fact is as much spew as there is about new media being the great equalizer castes are being formed and to a degree there are the cool kids and there are the kids standing against the wall. So what to do? What to do? Pretty simple. Stop trying to sniff ass of the big kids.

New rule: If you are in the top 10,000 on Technorati and you don't link to me? I don't link to you.

I should point out there are exceptions and some exceptional people. Joe Gandleman and Michael van der Galien of The Moderate Voice have been very gracious. Joe actually shocked the hell out of me when he once promoted one of my comments to a full post.

Also, Shakes lets me whore all over the place and also throws the occasional link pat on the head.

They's good people and will always be on the top of my list.

As for the rest of you? Let the delinking begin.

Possible Weirdness

I'm getting ready to convert The Drift over to Blogger Beta so things may get completely effed up. Here we go! heh-heh-heh. Thank you. Drive Through.

UPDATE: Everything seems to be going well. The new features are pretty nice. You will notice now you can browse old post by subject. That was the one feature I really wanted. But HOLY CRAP! I've got a lot of old post to label!

UDPATE II: About a third of the way through updating the posts. Two things I've noticed. Things seem to be faster. I suspect this has to do with the google takeover. I bet they moved to more stable hosting. My visits have gone through the roof! When you update, you are put in the "next blog" queue on Blogger. I suspect that it's picking up all these news tags as updates and putting me to the front every few minutes.

UPDATE III: I've got to navigate through Blogger's new fetch codes to figure out how to get my logo back up. Maybe I need a new one anyway.

UPDATE IV: Exactly half way on labelling the archives. That's enough for today. It's Friday for gods sake!

UPDATE V: I got in a late night fit and tagged the rest of the entries. You can now view the entire Ga/DC/Ga and Gulf Road trips by clicking on the Road Trips link. I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. I still have a little more parsing to do. I'm pleased that most of the entries have been about Georgia or Florida politics. That was the purpose when I set out to do this. I'm a little surprised by excess of diary-like entries but I suppose that's to be expected. Late night brings restlessness. Seeing the road trip post has me restless again. I think another road trip is in the cards. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

Blogger Is Crap

I've been sitting here for 30 minutes waiting for the host to come up. Now I have to leave soon. When you have limited time having an iffy host is crap. When I get back to a proper city I am going to explore other hosting options.

Blogger Hell

I read a few other blogs that were having trouble with Blogger this week. I was fortunate that my hiccups seemed minor. Not today! Posting will probably be limited due to this fact. It may be time to look into other hosting options.

Heck, the whole internet seems wonky today. I may go see a movie.

I'm being spammed by anonymous commenters linking to the Malkin personal information. For this reason I am temporarily turning on comment moderation. So if you comment, you may not see it immediately. Hopefully I can turn this off soon. Keep comments clean, reasonable and no links to personal information. As anyone who has lived on a message board that I have moderated will tell you, I will feel exactly zero guilt for gutting your little "pearls of wisdom".
