Friday Night Lights

My beloved Colquitt County Packers will play the Grayson Rams this Friday night in Loganville. While checking the ticket situation, I noticed the following on the Grayson website:
We need a volunteer to work the TDC parking lot beginning at 4pm. I have had numerous  emails and calls about parking, so I think that they will be bringing a large following.  I  believe that last year we had some issues with them getting here early and parking in that  lot.
Yes. We travel.

And yes. We tailgate.

Welcome to high school football - South Georgia style.

Chelsea

Huge match today against the Blues at Stamford Bridge. I can hope for a draw and the point. Would an outright win be too much to dream?

Hey nast? How's those Spurs doing?

So Sayeth The Fantasy Owners

I participated in my first fantasy football draft of the season today.

Interesting to note. Michael Vick was not drafted. Not even a flier. All the portents spell doom.

Arte Et Labore

Semis of the FA Cup today. Rovers face the near impossible task of taking on Chelsea or as they are snidely known, the World Cup All Stars.
UPDATE: Jason Roberts equalizes at 1-1 in the 64th minute! YES!
UPDATE II: Extra time!
UPDATE III: Dreams dashed by the German. Ah well.

Forget Becks, Here's Bents!

Blackburn Rovers young midfielder David Bentley played a key role in all three goals, including scoring the first ever goal by an Englishman in the new Wembley, for England in an U-21 friendly with Italy. It's just a matter of time before the rising star is called up to the senior squad.

What A Bunch Of Crap

Florida whines its way into the BCS Championship game.

Playoffs now.

UPDATE: There is still hope that evil does not rule the entire world. The demon reptiles lost in Tallahassee tonight.

I have one thought on this result.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Seeing George

So I'm watching the friendly between Brazil and Switzerland and what do I see on one of the sideboards?
George Foreman's big ass grinning head.
They are marketing the Foreman Grill to the Swiss.
I'm not sure what this says about capitalism or US / Europe relations. But it was damn odd.

There Was Much Rejoicing In The Land

The only joy in a 5-5 season!

UPDATE: The Lakeland Ledger is reporting that an FSU booster negotiated the settlement, i.e. blood money, to arrange Jeffys "resignation".

Big Day

Rovers are playing Man U.

Noles are playing the Dreamin Deacons.

Two teams. Two seasons on the cusp. I need KFC and beer.

UPDATE: Well that was an ugly day.

Weird rumor of the day. During the Rovers / Red Devils match, the commentators talked about a rumor that Beckham is coming to Blackburn. No effing way!

And yes, nast. I do remember our wager. See you at the Brewhouse next weekend.

Busy Sunday

Rovers vs West Ham and it's on FSC. YAY!

Falcons at Cincy

The city team trivia championship.

And wrapping up with a podcast party.

My brain is not used to this much activity on a Sunday.

Going Over

I've been completely converted. It's Saturday afternoon and I am watching Newcastle / Charlton instead of college football.

It is still unclear if this is a good thing.

UPDATE: By the way, Charlton is all around bad but Newcastle looks awful. They should be much better.

UPDATE II: I'm now back to watching good ol' American football. Identity crisis over.

Football Thoughts

I had weird dreams last night including ones of football. Not good old fashioned American football but English football. I guess my recent re-reading of Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby is in competition with my couch slug ten hours of NFL watching sunday ways.

Having just read again about Hillsborough, I shouldn't find the following funny, but I do admit to snickering a bit as I read the Rovers website tips for fans travelling to Krakow, Poland for the next UEFA match.

You will not be allowed to enter the stadium if you have drunk alcohol or if you are under the influence of alcohol...You must NOT: Drink alcohol in the place and time of mass gatherings, in the streets, squares, parks, enter the stadium with alcoholic beverages...If you are drunk you will not be allowed to enter the stadium!!!

I would think one warning would be enough. Maybe even two. But three punctuated by three exclamation points? Then again, I've had nightmares of ending up in the Atlanta drunk pokey. Could you imagine the nightmare of ending up in the Krakow drunk pokey?

Never End The Day On A Down Note

Blackburn beat SV Salzburg 2-0 for an aggregate 4-2 win.

Welcome to UEFA group play Rovers!

Giving It For The Team

Talk about giving it all.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms had his spleen removed following a loss to the Carolina Panthers.

I watched the game and Simms looked like death warmed over but a damaged spleen?!?! And he played the rest of the game! That's a tough kid.

Football Update

After a miserable 0-2-1 start the Rovers have now won two in a row to move to the middle of the table!

Oh. Y'all were expecting something else?

Okay. The Pack is 3-0 and starting region play next week. The Falcons are 2-0 and looking at a 3-0 division start. And FSU.....I still can't talk about FSU. Maybe next week.

GO ROVERS!

Football Open Thread

It's a boring afternoon but the fixtures are only an hour away.

I've attracted a few football fans so I thought I would give them an open thread near the top to taunt each other.

I've spent the past hour reading the sordid history of a friend's beloved Leeds United.

Now I await the Blackburn - Everton match.

Of course Fox Soccer Channel is showing Chelsea - Middlebrough. They always show Chelsea. Bah!
