I hate that we elect judges. Just hate it. For so many reasons. Ultimately though, I really hate it because it causes the judiciary to be tainted with the vileness of politics.
Georgia Supreme Court Justice Carol Hunstein is being challenged by lawyer Mike Wiggins. Wiggins took the gloves off first using the usual tactics of rumor, innuendo and accusations of judicial activism. Well, Justice Hunstein is not taking it lightly. She has taken the gloves off with a new campaign ad accusing Wiggins of threatening to kill his pregnant sister.
You can find a link to the ad here.
I have a Carol Hunstein sign in my yard. I will still vote for her. But I really, really wish it hadn't come to this.
And frankly I don't understand it. Hunstein has strong bipartisan support and the endorsement of practically every paper in the state. Disappointing. Extremely disappointing.
UPDATE: The Wiggins camp responds. You can read it here.
I really don't get this. Why was this ad necessary? If any of you insiders want to provide a reason, feel free to email me.

I support and will vote for Justice Hunstein. To me, and I think to a majority of those paying attention, she's by far the better choice. So there really was no need for an ad like that.
All she needs to do is compare her background and record to his. Let him try and distract the voters from that comparison. Don't do it for him. Case closed.
I really, really don't understand this Button. And I think it's a bad idea. Very bad.
