Shadenfreude

hee

UPDATE: 2:30 and the main page is still down. I have sympathy for tech folks but this is now at least a three hour outage. At most companies someone's ass would be fired.

I just got it too. What total and complete morons to not even have their front page working.

Then again, considering the mindless drivel they usually cover on the front page, it's not much of a loss...

That's weird, because they use Akamai for disaster backup, so if the main site goes down, it should revert to an Akamai cache. Wonder what's up...

And, while I appreciate your point, I've never heard of a company where someone was FIRED for a three-hour outage.

I didn't realize they use Akamai but it makes sense. I wondered why we weren't seeing some sort of cache. I suspect they had a major DNS malfunction.

And fired might have been a bit extreme. But with companies this large, the uptime agree usually runs 99.998. Three hours would kill an agreement you had for whatever period is in the contract. There would be some consequences.

But really the point is I spend way too much time hitting F5.
