Georgia Gang Howler Of The Week

Haven't done one of these in a while, but this was just too good to pass up. "Socialist" Alexis Scott desperately tries to defend Dekalb's bloated public staff.
It's not a fair comparison to compare Dekalb with Cobb and Gwinnett because Dekalb County is a much older and much more populated than Cobb and Gwinnett.
Uh, no it's not.

Gwinnett is more populous AND older!

Not much of a "howler". I suspect what was meant is that Dekalb has a much longer history of growth compared to Gwinnett and Cobb.

I think that the common interpretation of the GSU study is a bit backwards. Essentially the study showed a comparison between a mature-growth metro county and two recently-grown counties. Dekalb has had a much larger population with resultant pressures much longer than the other two counties. Its growth was much more gradual and as population pressures arose, they were dealt with on some level. The other two counties had relatively explosive growth. They are still catching up to dealing with the pressures of that growth.

The correct interpretation of the GSU study, IMO (of course), is that Cobb and Gwinnett are on their way to expanding government services, basically being forced to address issues that will make them more Dekalb-like, whether they like it or not.
