In the meantime, for some background, I encourage you to read Shelby Steele's piece in the WSJ's Opinion Journal on why he believes that if we weren't quite so delicate things would be different in Iraq.
"Certainly since Vietnam, America has increasingly practiced a policy of
minimalism and restraint in war. And now this unacknowledged policy, which
always makes a space for the enemy, has us in another long and rather
passionless war against a weak enemy."
Weirdly, he wraps his reasoning around "white guilt".
Not surprisingly this has elicited some strong reactions.

So it all boils down to America should have the balls to get even more of our soldiers killed in order to make sure we can win this preemptive war half a world away?
Have these people learned nothing from Vietnam? More troops does not always make for a better outcome, especially in situations as convoluted as this one. Sometimes it just ensures that more people die before we realize we made a huge mistake.
